AWO International Southeast Asia conducted a two-and-a-half-day Strategy Workshop on Human Trafficking and Safe Migration in Davao City, Philippines. The Workshop aimed at sharing lessons learnt and best practices in addressing human trafficking and promoting safe migration in the Philippines. More than fifty (50) participants from different sectors attended the workshop. They identified emerging issues in the field of migration and human trafficking that deserve special attention:

1. Trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation
2. Undocumented labor migration of domestic workers
3. Trafficking of child laborers
4. Trafficking and forced labor in the fishing industry
5. Trafficking of children for online sexual exploitation (cybersex)

The participants developed possible interventions and analyzed potential synergies between the different stakeholders, especially government –non-government cooperations. The strategic input generated will be considered in the development of AWO International Southeast Asia’s country program strategy for the Philippines.  Currently AWO International Southeast Asia is consolidating its strategic goals and expanding its program in the Philippines.
